Hair Loss
Hair loss, also known as alopecia, is a common condition in which hair falls out from the scalp, leading to thinning or bald patches. Hair loss can affect both men and women and can be caused by a variety of factors, including genetics, hormonal changes, medical conditions, and certain medications.
There are several types of hair loss, including:
- Androgenetic alopecia: This is the most common type of hair loss, also known as male or female pattern baldness. It is caused by a combination of genetics and hormones and usually affects the top and front of the scalp.
- Telogen effluvium: This type of hair loss occurs when a large number of hair follicles enter the resting phase at the same time, causing hair to fall out in clumps. It can be caused by stress, medical conditions, or certain medications.
- Alopecia areata: This is an autoimmune condition in which the body attacks hair follicles, causing hair to fall out in patches. It can affect any part of the scalp, as well as other parts of the body.
- Scarring alopecia: This type of hair loss occurs when hair follicles are destroyed and replaced by scar tissue, causing permanent hair loss. It can affect any part of the scalp.
The specific part of the scalp that hair loss affects will depend on the type of hair loss and the individual. In general, hair loss can affect any part of the scalp but is most commonly seen on the top and front of the scalp in cases of androgenetic alopecia.
